OPEN MIC! DALTON LITFEST!

*** Stop Press!*** Book your open mic place now, at the first DALTON LITFEST ! Join me and Kim Moore and have a wild night of poetry, people and pints of fun!

What have Kansas, Woody Guthrie, Swarthmoor Hall, New York City, Morecambe Bay and Brantwood got in common? Answer: local writer, and former writer-in-residence of Swarthmoor Hall and Brantwood, Geraldine Green

Geraldine will be at the Launch of Dalton LitFest alongside poet Kim Moore when the results of the children's competitions will be announced. Prizes will be given out by the Mayor of Dalton.

Both poets will announce the winners of the decorated poem and the short story competitions as well as reading from their poetry. Geraldine will read from her upcoming collection Passing Through and also poems from her second collection, Salt Road, described by Sir Chris Bonington as:

"a magical book [that] explores and captures the feel, texture, smell of natural beauty where ever it is to be found. It's especially evocative of her own home ground on the south coast of Cumbria, overlooking Morecambe Bay."

and Dawn Bauling of Indigo Dreams says this about Passing Through:

It is indeed a "love letter to Cumbria"- like walking through its parts with a lyrical David Attenborough - nothing gets missed, all the history, all the beauty, all the unpredictable wonder of it - from the way the waves lap on Coniston to the history in the old stones on Foulney Island, its minutiae and its grandeur. You want to wander with Geraldine and see with her eyes, her real eyes and her mind's eye. Forget the tourist information guides - if you want to know what the lakes and fells are all about read this. O …and finally someone who knows how to use prose within poetry! Alleluia!

Geraldine will be reading with Kim Moore at the invite only Launch of the first DALTON LITFEST on November 3rd and co-hosting the Open Mic Poetry Evening with Kim on:

Nov 4th: 7pm – 9pm @ Dalton Community Centre, 21 Nelson Street, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA15 8AF :: £2 on the door

There's also a Schools Programme taking place. Says Geraldine “Very much looking forward to judging the schools’ poetry competitions with Kim and hearing the children read their winning entries at the launch in the Community Centre, 7pm-9pm on Friday November 3rd

Geraldine and Kim will read a poem or two for you!  Their books will be on sale, so come up, say hello and maybe buy a book, or two!?

Nice article in the Westmorland Gazette about Dalton LitFest!

So, whether you enjoy poetry, or prose, crime fiction, children's books, nature writing, travel writing or autobiography- there's an author event for everyone at the first  Dalton LitFest

and here's some info on my writing:

Cumbrian-born Geraldine Green writes of place and of people, drawing on her own experience, travel and memories in “stories that connect”. In 2015 she celebrated ten years of poetry readings in America, including the Woody Guthrie Festival Oklahoma, Walt Whitman Birthplace Long Island, San Francisco, Kansas, Woodstock and many readings in and around New York City. Her writing has been widely anthologized in the UK, USA, Italy, South Africa and Greece. Geraldine was honoured to be first writer-in-residence at Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston and latterly at Brantwood, Coniston.

Her concerns about the environment and the land have taken her to New Mexico where she gave a talk on writers John Clare and Aldo Leopold whose work, like Geraldine’s, highlight the importance of reconnecting with nature.

She has run workshops for Cumbria Wildlife Trust and the National Trust and enjoys re-introducing people to the outdoors through poetry and prose.  She gained an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing in 2005 and in 2010 achieved a PhD titled: “An Exploration of Identity and Environment through Poetry”, both through Lancaster University.

Geraldine’s second collection Salt Road was described by Sir Chris Bonington as “a magical book.  … [that] explores and captures the feel, texture, smell of natural beauty where ever it is to be found.  It’s especially evocative of her own home ground on the South coast of Cumbria overlooking Morecambe Bay, but it ranges across the World following her own journeys.  It pulses with energy, and a boundless enthusiasm, that makes you hunger for more.”

Her third collection of poetry and prose Passing Through, based largely in and around the Furness Peninsula, will be published in 2018 by Indigo Dreams.
